Introduction

Nyaluk foundation has been at the heart of environmental conversation education. Environment is one of the areas within our scope of interest, bearing in mind the importance of environmental health and its influence on human health. Nyaluk foundation based in Nakuru has been in involved in many community initiatives covering health held within Nakuru county. In line with the government’s plan to increase the countries tree cover in its ambitious plan of planting 15 billion within the next Ten years. There is a need to have all hands-on deck, bringing various teams and institutions to the table. In line with various community initiatives, we have undertaken we believe we have a solid network of various leaders and organizations within the community level. We believe that we have a role to play in promoting the planting of trees within communities that can be inspired by the need to have a healthy community and environment.

Below is a framework that we seek to implement in partnership with various partners.

Introduction concept to schools and communities.

To improve uptake and program success there is a need to have various partners on board. There is a need to introduce the program and concept to schools and communities to access land and labour, while also improving awareness on environmental conservation. This will improve the number of tree seedlings produced and supplement production in government agencies. It will also create a sense of ownership of the project.

Preparing tree nurseries.

Assessment, allocation and setting up of tree nurseries within designated institutions or areas. Setting up suitable tree nurseries with advice from experts.

Supply of tree seeds.

Source for tree seedlings and seeds from government agencies and non-governmental organizations. The seeds can be supplied to various tree nurseries set within various institutions and be propagated before being distributed.

Setting supply centers.

Once the seeds are ready. There is a need for elaborate distribution and marketing of selected units as supply centers to support tree planting initiatives. This will supplement already existing tree seedlings that are distributed by government institutions and improve of the numbers supplied to the community.

Transplanting to sites.

The seedlings can then be supplied to various sites for transplanting and nurturing in the selected by the communities.
